Moon
Directed by David Bowie's son (don't hold that against him), this is almost a one-man show. Sam Rockwell absolutely owns this film, and is the way sci-fi is meant to be. No schlocky special effects, suspense, twists, thought-provoking, and exceeds its budget in leaps and bounds. Don't overlook Kevin Spacey as the robots voice. Another amazing soundtrack by Clint Mansell as well (Scored The Fountain, The Wrestler).
Pontypool
Documentary gold: With very little money, a postal clerk and librarian managed to become two of the most prominent art collectors in the world through the 1960s and 70s. They followed two guidelines, the peice had to be affordable and fit in their one bedroom apartment.
You the Living
Roy Andersson's second film, American audiences can finally see it. His first film, Songs from the Second Floor slow burned at BPE, and this swede makes films like no other. Not for everyone, but for those who he clicks with, an indispensable film maker.
The Burning Plain
The next film by the director of Babel, Amores Perros, and 21 Grams. I don't know much about it except it stars Charlize Theron. Surprised how low on the radar this has been considering how Babel did in the theater.
