Ponyo
Hayao Miyazaki makes classic movies. Every time. Like Spirited Away. He is absolutely unique and one of a kind. Disney decided to not be huge #$&#$& and actually put some promotion behind this one stateside. He is an icon overseas. He beats out Pixar in his home country of Japan at the box office. There is one movie made before this one Disney is sitting on, so look forward to more Miyazaki!

Directed by a guy from the NBC version of the office? From the book by David Foster Wallace, who killed himself last year (and was quite a shock to this movie store owner). The first adaptation of one of his works.

Bulletproof Salesman
Crazy documentary. Crazy. This guy is a war profiteer. Outright. He provides armored cars and what not for everybody. The Iraq war was christmas to him. Then insurgents started building stronger explosives, so he matched with stronger, more expensive cars. Freedom isn't free, and he's the one invoicing.
Afghan Star
Winner of the Directing and Audience Awards in Sundance's 2009 World Documentary competition. After years of Taliban oppression, a televised competition where people of all age, gender, and ethnicity compete to be the afghan star is downright revolutionary. Voting on the finalists is the first exercise in democracy many will have known. The film follows 4 finalists - two men and two women.
